The kindle from amazon has certainly held steadfastly against the onslaught of the iPad.  The kinds offers an easy to read electronic ink screen with fast download times for books as well as a free 3g network.  Well for those of us that own android phones, we can now have access to all of the books that the Kindle has access to with the new Amazon Kindle for Android app.  This app allows you to access over 620,000 kindle books right from your phone including thousands of free.  This is great if you have an android phone but can’t afford a kindle.  The app is also great as you can use your phone to adjust the text size, color mode, or brightness so that you can make the book a little bit easier to read and pick up and open up.

There are several pros to this app as you can have access to all of the kindle books without needing an expensive kindle.  You can also read thousands of books including the New York Best Selling book lists.  Having thousands of free books to read is also a huge plus to the app.  The app also saves and syncs the last page read, bookmarks, notes, and highlights between the actual kindle and android phone if you own both to make life very easy.

With any app, there are a few cons, and the cons that we can see is that the app for the android does not let you search or have dictionary features like the kindle has.  This makes it more difficult to find a part in a book or to search the book for something you remember reading.  The other thing we would like to see is more options for customization like the hand held kindle does.

Overall, this app is great as it allows you to read kindle books, sync with the kinds so you can pick up where you left off on either device, and gives you a way to read fantastic books without the need of an expensive kindle.  The app lets you search books and get a brief description on the books in the amazon store so you can choose to purchase them o not.  Anything you download on the android app will also download on your kindle device.

So many people complain that there are not enough apps that help an Android phone save battery power.  Well that is simply not true as there are apps out there.  One such app is called Screebl and ti controls power saving features on your phone based on the orientation of the phone.  Never have the screen blank again while using your phone.  the coolest part is that you can actually save power by doing this with the new screebl app for the Android phone.  You can extend the screen timeout dynamically with the position you are holding the phone.  You can save battery power in the long term by using this app that is based on the orientation of your phone.

Although screebl can save you some battery life in the long term, the savings are somewhat not as much as thought as the app is constantly running in the background which takes some juice from the batter.  Its a catch 22.  Screebl for the Android monitors the axis orientation of the phone to determine how long or short the screen timeout should be.  you can leave the default settings active, or you can configure your own settings write from the app.  The notification system allows you to see the status of the battery saving as it has a window shade giving you a visual depiction of what is going on.
